To the outside world, it often looked like I had plenty of friends. But the truth is, I kept most people at arm’s length.
Very few knew the real me — the struggles, the past, the pain.
Trust didn’t come easily. I felt I had to protect myself at all costs.
Sharing my story required a level of vulnerability I didn’t think I had.
To speak out, I had to dig deep — deeper than I ever had before.
Both my head and my heart were telling me not to do it.
I suppose they were trying to protect me from more heartache.
But I’m so glad I found the strength to ignore them.
Hurting alone is hard.
Keeping people out is lonely.
And not speaking your truth can make the world feel even more silent.
Since I began sharing my story, the weight I carry has started to feel just a little lighter.
I’ve felt empowered by speaking my truth.
I’ve felt honoured that others now feel safe enough to confide in me.
It took me so long to find the words I so desperately needed to say.
For years, I lived knowing I had a voice — but was too afraid to use it.
Now, I’m using that voice.
To empower others.
To share stories that matter.
To make a difference.
